I’ve always been excited by logos, their elegance and their simplicity in communication but have always thought they are a bit under appreciated outside of the design industry. I've often wondered what it would be like if logos weren’t bound by corporate ideals – instead of being an emblem used to sell cars or chocolate bars they simply conveyed an idea or experience, much like traditional illustration...

31 Days Off Meat

Last year I decided to take a month off meat. I spent 31 days imagining how good the victory steak would be, but actually found a lot of things that were almost as tasty as a juicy sirloin. I wrote down a lot of things I ate and tried, and the most memorable parts made it into the illustration. And I never did have the victory steak.

Lenovo Mobile Phone Cover design competition

This is an entry for the aforementioned design competition. I've never heard of Lenovo before but the phone looks cool so I figured I'd give it a go. I submitted four colours, Red, Pink, Green and in Big Apple style, Mocha. Otherwise known as brown.

Things I Did That No-One Wanted

I’ve built up a whole body of work: initial concepts, rejected ideas, style variations and so on. Basically all the work that goes into design that no-one ever sees. I’ve decided to give them the light of day and in doing so realised that a lot of the original connotations I associated with them had been lost and new ones formed.

I designed The Big Smoke when I first moved to London. Illustration and design sit alongside one another in the hope of demonstrating that they are one and the same.

The logos below are some of the 'illustrations' that make up the images above. When you look at a logo without any sort of commerical connotations they become something more impactful; expressions of thoughts and ideas presented in a recognisable and impactful way.
